Scott joined RPA full time in 2011, after retiring as a Division Chief in the Buffalo, NY Fire Department. As a Division Chief, Scott was responsible for the department’s city-wide operations and emergency response whenever his platoon was on duty. Prior to that, he held the position of Chief of Staff, where he supervised the department’s Training Bureau, Safety Division, Special Operations Command, Fire Prevention Bureau, Communications Division and grant-writing efforts. He also served for two years as the Chair of the CBRNE Committee of the Buffalo Region’s Urban Area Strategic Initiative (UASI).
As a Battalion Chief, Scott served as Chief of Training, then as platoon commander of the city’s 6th Battalion. The first fifteen years of his career in the BFD were spent as a Firefighter, Lieutenant and Captain in some of the city’s busiest fire companies. He has been an instructor at the Fire Department Instructors’ Conference (FDIC) in Indianapolis, and has published in Fire Engineering magazine. He has received specialized training on numerous occasions at the National Fire Academy in Emmitsburg, MD.
Scott holds a MA in Teaching from Fairleigh Dickinson University, where he attended on a Teaching Fellowship from the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation. His BA is from Hampshire College, where he majored in English and writing. For more than fourteen years, Scott worked as a college English professor and a high school English teacher. He serves RPA clients out of the Rochester, NY office.
