Topic: Long Term Care Mutual Aid: Integrating State Agencies, Coalitions and Providers
Long Term Care facilities continue to struggle to find their place within the healthcare coalitions. This stems from the priorities of the coalitions (more hospital/public health focused) to the limited resources committed to emergency preparedness from the nursing homes. Virginia took on this initiative to engage all 283 facilities by partnering with state/county/city public health, the LTC providers, the associations and the Medicaid payers. The barriers to success needed to be removed and site-specific resources needed to be provided for a value-add to each site. But how could they be paid if they supported each other in a large-scale disaster?
