Topic: “After the surge has come: an exploration of real challenges and practical solutions for hospitals managing an unexpected surge of patients”
Regulatory agencies and communities expect that hospitals will be ready 24/7/365 to receive an unexpected, emergency surge of patients. After the hospital initially receives, assesses, and stabilizes the surge of patients, it must then manage the patients, often for multiple days in units that are already near or at census capacity. There are also many secondary and tertiary effects of the patient surge that must be managed by the hospital in a way that preserves the hospital’s “normal” operations.
This interactive course will explore the transition from initial management to long-term management; developing and understanding of down-stream
effects; and more!
